It’s days like these…

… that I really love food!  As we near the end of Gabriel Gaté’s Taste le Tour for 2013, and the riders of the Tour de France prepare to power (or limp) their way onto the Champs-Élysée, Gabriel shares with us a recipe that encapsulates all we know and love about French food.

Look at that!
Look at that!

The recipe is for Tartiflette, a potato gratin with washed rind cheese. There is cheese (oozy, gooey and ever so slightly stinky), bacon, crème fraîche, butter, and of course, wine.  This is not a recipe for the faint hearted, but one that has to be tried and shared with friends (and more wine!).  I have heard that you can buy t-shirts in the French Alps with the motto ‘In tartiflette we trust’  as testament to the fortifying power of this dish amongst the alpine skiers.  This dish is insanely good and definitely worthy of its own t-shirt!

I’m converted.  This is sooo much more than a simple potato gratin.  I love tartiflette.  Check out the recipe here and see what you think. Now, I think I need one of those t-shirts…
